What Was She Thinking?:
The album kicks off with the title track Fearless. This one is adorable enough, with Taylor's sometimes annoying vocal sounding right at home here. I'm a fan of the track, the lyrics are beautiful - the wet streets image is beautiful. The chorus is great and the "head first, fearless" hook gets stuck in my head for much too long! I quite like the track! Fifteen was one track that I initially liked, but very quickly grew tired of and it fell from grace probably before it should. Something about the track's chorus really turns me off the piece and I wasn't overtly impressed with it, sadly. I like the lyrics though! Then comes that absolute hit here, Love Story. The track is adorable, the lyrics are great, there is a key change and the whole thing is beautiful. Taylor sounds right at home, and THERE'S A KEY CHANGE! - How awesome is that? Great track, that does occasionally get a little tiresome - You have to take it in sparse doses to fully appreciate it's brilliance. Hey Stephen has really got me under it's spell. The track is adorably simple, the vocal sounds amazing and the lyrics are just adorable. I'm a huge fan of the track, and while I don't totally adore the bridge as much as I once did, or hoped I would, It's quite a nice track. Definitely one of the tracks that deserves a single piece.
White Horse, the track that was used to promote Grey's Anatomy here, is a beautiful ballad, quite a lot slower than the last few tracks. It's simple, and beautiful and that's why I love it! The lyrics are beautiful and the chorus is great! It worked great in the ad too! The new single, You Belong With Me, is catchy enough, and the whole vocal rhythm in the bridge is great, the lyrics are beautiful and the signs in the video are great - but some stuff holds me back. The chorus isn't my favourite and somehow the song doesn't quite entrance me like some of her other stuff...I actually can't remember much from Breathe, her duet with Colbie Calliat. So, from the iTunes snippet - It's slowish, and doesn't quite have the X factor I love in some of her other stuff. Their vocals work nicely together though - So that's handy! Tell Me Why just really isn't working for me either. I can't remember enough, but the track just doesn't seem to "click" like it's supposed to. The end of the snippet is nice enough though. You're Not Sorry, does have a lovely chorus, but that's about all from memory - I can't remember much at all... Taylor sounds a little off in parts, and it's quite a slow track - for some reason I wasn't such a huge fan. But I do quite like the chorus! Sorry!
The Way I Loved You, another midtempo ballad, is another one I can't remember from the album. The snippet boasts a pretty chorus and a nice enough verse. Is it enough to go back and have a look at it? Probably not...but tempting! Then comes what I personally feel should have been the follow-up to Love Story, Forever & Always. Complete with an extremely catchy vocal flow, some great vocals and a beautiful chorus. Whilst it's not perfect, it's an adorable track that I really like! I do feel the drums are a little stronger than they possibly should have been too. The Best Day, is possibly the most beautiful track on the album. The lyrics are just amazing and Taylor's vocal is beautiful, vulnerable and adorable in the right parts. The music isn't particularly amazing, and the chorus doesn't do a whole lot for me, but it's such a beautiful track it doesn't matter! Change is kinda rockier track that also doesn't do a whole lot for me. I'm not 'taken' by it, but it isn't terrible either. Kinda middle of the road stuff.
Our Song, is a beautiful, fun, cheeky and adorable track that I really do enjoy. I really love the vocals, and it really should have been another of the singles from the album! Next track, Teardrops On My Guitar, is a pretty track that I do quite like, but I'm not totally sold on it - and I think, for some reason, that maybe a re-record could be useful! - Either way, It's pretty enough, but for some reason I deleted the track...Should've Said No sees Taylor taking on a kinda rocky, aggressive tone and the result is a great track. I do feel the verses could have had a little more punch, but there is definitely potential here and I think it's one of her best tracks. That chorus is a killer! Lastly, the Love Story (US Pop Mix) is just as adorable as the original (I don't think the "International Mix" is on here, I think the other version is the US Country Mix...), anyway - Pretty enough, but I want the Digital Dog Club Mix - That'd be nicer!
It's actually quite a good country crossed pop album isn't it? Maybe the most accessible country star since Shania. Love Story continues to be amazing, but also I'm quite smitten with a couple of the other tunes. And as there are so many to choose from, it's quite easy to cut out the mediocre ones and make a very good 10 track set :)
ReplyDeletePaul: Well, you've got to factor in Carrie Underwood and LeAnn Rimes, but she is pretty well up there! It is quite a good album, and I do rather like it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the album, LOVE Taylor; I find her adorable and I can't get enough of her when her clips are playing.
